'Moon Jae-in' sworn in as South Korea’s president

  • ‘Moon Jae-in’ has sworn in as 19th President of the South Korea after winning a landslide victory in polls.
  • Moon Jae-in is the former human rights lawyer and chief of staff to then-President Roh Moo-hyun.
  • Earlier, Moon won about 41.1% of vote, defeating his rivals Hong Joon-pyo -24 % (conservative Liberty Korea Party) and Ahn Cheol-soo - 21.4% (centrist People's Party).
  • Moon appointed South Jeolla Province Governor Lee Nak-yon as the Prime Minister.
Note: The President of the Republic of Korea is the chairperson of the cabinet, the chief executive of the government, commander-in-chief of the armed forces, and the head of state of South Korea.

Venu Rajamony appointed India’s Ambassador to Netherlands

  • Senior IFS officer (1986 batch) ‘Venu Rajamony’ has appointed India’s Ambassador to Netherlands.
  • Earlier, He had served as Consul General of India in Dubai (2007-2010) and been posted to Indian missions in Hong Kong, Beijing, Geneva, and Washington.
  • Rajamony had been serving in the Rashtrapati Bhawan since August 2012.
  • Joint Secretary in the External Affairs Minsitry Pooja Kapur has been appointed Ambassador to Bulgaria.

US President Donald Trump fies FBI director 'James Comey'

  • The US President ‘Donald Trump’ has fired the FBI Director ‘James Comey’.
  • James Comey was leading the investigation into whether his election campaign had ties to Russia's and its interference in last year's election.

Supreme Court to become paperless, digital court from today

  • Today, the Supreme Court has taken its first step towards becoming a paperless, digital court.
  • Prime Minister 'Narendra Modi' has inaugurated the digital filing system of the Supreme Court, which will mark the movement towards a paperless Apex Court.
  • Modi uploaded Integrated Case Management Information System(ICMIS) with Supreme Court Website.
Note: All High Courts, District Courts, Sub-Division Courts will be integrated with the new system. All jails in the country will be Integrated with the system later

Delhi Metro fare hike kicks in today

  • Today, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) raised the minimum fare from Rs.8 to Rs.10 and the maximum from Rs.30 to Rs.50.
  • Under the new fare structure, for up to 2 kilo-meters the fare will be Rs.10.
  • 2 to 5 kilo meters it will be Rs.15.
  • 5 to 12 kilo meters it will be Rs.20.
  • 12 to 21 kilo meters it will be Rs.30.
  • 21 to 32 kilo meters it will be Rs.40.
  • over 32 kilo-meters the fare will be 50 rupees.
Note:
  • The Delhi Metro is a metro system serving Delhi and its satellite cities of Faridabad, Gurgaon, Noida, and Ghaziabad in National Capital Region in India.
  • Delhi Metro is the world's 12th largest metro system in terms of both length and number of stations.

UP Cabinet passes Lord krishna's town Mathura-Vrindavan as Nagar Nigam

  • The Uttar Pradesh state cabinet has passed the ‘Ayodhya- Faizabad’ and ‘Mathura-Vrindavan’ as municipal corporation (Nagar Nigam) to develop its surrounding areas.
  • There are already 14 Nagar Nigams in state and after two new more Nagar Nigams total number comes to 16 Nagar nigam.

Railways to acquire EOTT system to run trains without guards

  • The Indian Railways will soon run 1000 trains without guards by installing sophisticated equipment.
  • Now, Indian Railways will acquire 1000 End of Train Telemetry (EoTT) equipment for its container operations.
  • The EoTT equipment is designed to do the guard's job by giving indication to the loco driver in case of parting of coaches or wagons from the rear side of the train.
  • All goods trains on the proposed dedicated freight corridors will run with EoTT system.
Note: Earlier, The Indian Railways had earlier undertaken the trial run of the EoTT system successfully.

Heena Sidhu wins bronze in Grand Prix of Liberation Plezn 2017 Shooting championship

  • Heena Sindhu claimed a bronze medal in the women's 10m Air Pistol at the Grand Prix of Liberation Plezn 2017 Shooting championships in Czech Republic.
  • Heena shot 218.8 in the eight-woman final, Anna Korakaki (Greek) claimed Gold medal (sot 246.3) and Michelle Skeries (Germany) took silver (shot 237.8)

Jhulan Goswami becomes world's highest wicket-taker in ODIs

  • India’s woman’s cricket team fast bowler ‘Jhulan Goswami’ (34-year) has become the highest wicket-taker (181- wickets) in the history of ODIs (One Day International).
  • She eclipsed the record in the name of Cathryn Fitzpatrick (Australia) record 180 wickets from 109 matches.
  • Earlier, Goswami has won the Arjuna Award (2010), Padma Shri (2012) and ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year award in 2007

FIBA revises earlier rule banning headgears

  • International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has revised its earlier rule banning players from wearing headgear.
  • It will enable India's Sikh players to wear turbans and play in the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Qualifiers in China.
  • The Qualifiers for the Asia-Oceania region comprise the same sixteen teams that are slated to compete at the FIBA Asia Cup 2017 in Lebanon from August 10-20.
  • Group A (China, New Zealand, Korea, and Hong Kong),
  • Group B (Japan, Chinese Taipei, Australia, and Philippines)
  • Group C (India, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan)
  • Group D (Iraq, Qatar, Kazakhstan, and Iran).
Note: The top seven teams from the Qualifiers will advance to play in the World Cup 2019 to be conducted in China.
