Last Minute Tips for IBPS Clerk VI - Preliminary Exam 2016

The Preliminary phase of IBPS Clerk Exam 2016 starts from tomorrow. The exam will take place in 4 sets - 26th, 27th November, 3rd and 4th December. Exam will be conducted in 4 slots each day. Today we are sharing with you all some last minute tips that would be helpful in giving some final touches to your preparation.
A clear idea of the exam pattern is a must.

Make a proper note of the following before attempting the exam -
  • Time Management is imperative in order to ace this leg of the exam. Trt to attempt sufficient number of questions from each section.
  • Do not attempt to solve each and every question. Here proper selection of questions that you attempt first is crucial. Bear in mind the topics that you are good at. Try to first attempt the questions which are less time consuming.
  • Speed and Accuracy are also essential to clear this phase. Maintain proper speed while solving the questions since the beginning.
  • Please keep in mind that there is Negative Marking of ¼ marks per question for each Wrong Answer.
  • Remember this exam is just Qualifying in natureThe marks scored in this phase will not be included in the final merit list.
  • Candidates are required to obtain a minimum score in each section to clear the Sectional Cut-Off and also a minimum total score to clear theOverall Cutoff in the online test to be shortlisted for the mains phase of this exam.
Time allotment for various sections -
  

As we have saying time and again, the stronger and weaker areas for different students vary. So, divide your time among different sections bearing in mind the sections you are good at as well as the time range that we have specified here.
Section - wise Tips -
English Language
  • The topics mentioned below take up less time as compared to others. So, it is advisable to attempt these topics first -
    Cloze Test
    Fill in the blanks
    Spotting Errors
    Vocabulary based questions from Reading Comprehension.
  • You can attempt the Parajumbles and Reading comprehension questions after you finish these questions if the time permits.
  • If you come across spelling mistakes based questions, try to attempt them before Parajumbles and RC.
Numerical Ability
  • This section comprises of 35 questions with a total of 35 marks.
  • Try to attempt the following topics first in this section since they are less time consuming-
    Simplification/ Approximation
    Number Series
    Data Interpretation (especially Difference, ratio and average based questions)
  • If the pattern of the number series doesn't click within 40 - 45 seconds, it would be wise to move on to the next question.
  • Once you finish the above mentioned topics, you can move to the miscellaneous questions if time allotted for that section is still left.
Reasoning Ability
  • 35 questions will be asked in this topic with a total of 35 marks.
  • This section if attempted properly can be highly scoring for you
  • Try to attempt the following topics first in this section since they are less time consuming-
    Inequality
    Syllogism
    Coding – Decoding
    Number/ Alphanumeric Series
    Miscellaneous questions including Blood relations, Direction based questions.
  • Once you are done with these questions, you can attempt the Seating arrangement and Puzzle based questions. Try not to spend more than 4 -5 minutes on any arrangement.
Do’s and Don’t for the Exam -
  • Do not panic once the exam starts. Stay calm and attempt the questions with a clear mind.
  • Do read the questions properly first.
  • Do not spend too much time on any one question.
  • Do not use guess work.
  • Do not forget to take along the photograph (same as that on the admit card) and xerox as well as the original ID proof with you.
A lot of you must be nervous and feeling that preparation is not up to the mark, I request you all to be patient, keep calm and think how you'll approach the paper. Remember, you just need to qualify this exam. Keep in mind the last year cutoff and try to score more than it for safe attempts.
Do not panic if you come across and new question. Read it properly first and go for it only if you understand the language of the question.
On the basis of your practice decide what type of questions you are going to attempt in the exam. Avoid attempting questions from sections you are weak at unless question is very easy. All those who think their preparation is enough, please do not get carried away with the excitement of complete preparations. Do not try to attempt too many questions as this might also increase your chances of committing mistakes.
