Vijay Rupani to be new Chief Minister of Gujarat

The BJP Friday named its state unit president and minister Vijay Rupani as the new Chief Minister of Gujarat, replacing Anandiben Patel who resigned earlier this week. He was chosen ahead of front-runner Nitin Patel who will be the Deputy Chief Minister. Rupani, a Jain Baniya, emerged as the choice for the top job at a meeting of BJP MLAs, attended by party president Amit Shah and Union MinisterNitin Gadkari. After the meeting, Gadkari announced that Rupani would be the new Chief Minister.
  • BJP state President Vijay Rupani (60-year) has been named the new Chief Minister of Gujarat after a meeting of the BJP legislators at State Party headquarter “Shree Kamalam” Gandhinagar.
  • Nitin Patel will be the deputy chief minister.
  • Rupani was the minister for transport, water supply, labor and employment in Anandiben’s cabinet.
  • He was elected an MLA for the first time in 2014, winning theRajkot West seat vacated by Vajubhai Vala, who went on to become Karnataka Goveror.

  • Vijay Rupani was born on 2 August 1956 to Ramniklal Rupani in aJain Bania family.
  • He holds a Bachelor of Arts and LLB degree.
